This summer we are doing our first ever Baird Family camping trip. We are going with David's parents, siblings and their spouses. The kids will be staying in Grandma and Grandpa's pop-up. We still figured we should get them used to sleeping outside and David decided to set up our tent and have a "practice run." The first night, Sunday, he got everything out there, set up, and the kids would not settle down. Amelia might have slept if it wasn't for Samuel thinking this was a fun game to be on an air mattress and prefer to jump rather than sleep. At 9:30 (1 1/2 hrs after starting) David hauled them in and they slept quietly in their own beds. The next night he decided to try it again. We did everything we could to tire the kids out (you would think Como Zoo would do that.) At 9:15 I still heard them jabbering away, and Amelia whimpering that she was scarred. When I went to bed at 10:30 though, all was quiet. This morning I woke them up at 7 so David could get to work. I guess they had finally settled down around 10 after David promised Amelia a Princess and the frog barbie if she could sleep in the tent all night. She promptly then turned to Samuel and asked... what do you want Samuel for sleeping in the tent? Boy, is she thoughtful of her brother! This morning we made a run to Target for Tianna. :)
I still think it will be different in a pop-up, and they will do just fine.
It has brought to light that we are now on "Summer schedule." We are planning a few trips and activities for this summer and I have to keep reminding myself that the schedules, routines, and food patterns may go out the window. I'm trying to be flexible with this whole thing. Ask me in a few weeks how that is going for me! My biggest fear is that Samuel will stop napping during this time, and I love that 1-3 hour time to do a few things for myself. On another note, I'm looking forward to being a little more freer and having a lot of fun on our many adventures!!
I remember the words of our pediatrician... "they'll sleep when their tired and eat when their hungry....don't worry they'll be fine."
