Country Kitchen

This could be a post about so many things. The above picture is not of the recent birthday party, but rather last year's party. The reason I'm posting it is to show the kitchen wall in the background. For years (actually about 12) I have had the star quilt. I bought it at the Inspiration Point Quilt auction with my friend Amy. Some people buy beautiful bed quilts, me I buy wall quilts. I have at least 5 of them from these auctions over the years. This one caught my eye and it was made by the ladies at my home church (Faith Lutheran in Blue Earth) so held even more significance. It just so happened that it fit well in the duplex I lived in with Lissa and Renae and so the star wall quilt graced our kitchen wall. When I bought my own place, it again graced my kitchen wall and became part of my red apple kitchen. It even went up in the kitchen apartment where David and I first lived, and now to our house where we have lived for 6 years. For the last several years I have been tired of this quilt. I wanted to change out the kitchen and give it a new look. I still like the red and beige, I just needed new accessories. I started really liking rooster stuff that I was seeing around. I however, did not want to have a totally rooster kitchen. About a year ago I bought new rooster canisters and slowly added in some rooster accents. This wall however became the thorn in my side. No picture seemed right for this wall. I had decided I wanted to have other country accents ( I know many say country is going out, but I still like it.) Finally one day at Joanne Fabric I saw this pictures. Kinda a blend of country, roosters, and applique. I realized I would have to do a collage of things.
So here is the finished product.......

Notice above the microwave I have some wood houses I found at an antique store along with a rooster weather vain.

A close up of the pictures.

I have left some of my apple things up and may change those out as needed.
So there you have it my country kitchen.
It has felt like a country kitchen lately as we have again been seeing evidence of mice and have been on the hunt for them (currently we are up to 6). They hit several weeks ago when it was warmer out so I don't know what it is up with that. It drives me crazy as I like things clean. I have been doing a lot of sanitizing. Thankfully I have never seen one alive and running around. As my friend says if I come out some morning and they have made coffee for me, I'll know I have a true country kitchen.

Amy and Mom- I hope you enjoyed this post, it was for you !
